About Communication

Communication means that we can talk to others and have them understand what we are trying to say to them. Being able to talk is one thing, but we must also be able to understand body language, sarcasm, and other such things in order to communicate efficiently and properly with other people. I think that communication is important in order for us to advance as a civilization, and that without the ability to communicate properly, we would not advance, either technologically, medically, or even artistically.

Since our target audience extends far beyond the classroom, we will be learning how to communicate properly with anyone who can speak Japanese. We need to be able to say what we mean, and make sure that those watching our podcast understand what we are trying to show them.

  1. I agree with your analysis, and especially like the emphasis on communicating with the non-American audience. Although I think sarcasm is oddly specific, I do like the stress on body language and intention/intonation as well.

  2. That's really intense to say that we couldn't advance without communication, but it is true. How "far" beyond the classroom is this podcast supposed to reach? What does "far" mean? jk. What is sarcasm; does it have an inherently negative connotation? Tripping out about communication... ! I agree about body language! Both you and Miles-san wrote about that. I think I did too. woohoo communication!

  3. It's awesome to see everyone committed to the non-verbal aspects of communication! I think it'll be important to use as many elements of communication that reach across the language barrier as possible. Nice point about sarcasm, and the wider implications of good communication.
